London Sights Day 1: Westminster Abbey by Thijs K

Westminster Abbey has been an English church since the year 1560. It was founded in the year 960. According to a tradition, Aldrich, a young fisherman on the River Thames, had a vision of Saint Peter near the site. This seems to have been quoted as the origin of the salmon that Thames fisherman offered to the abbey in later years – a custom still observed annually by the Fishmongers’ Company. The Westminster Abbey nowadays is still used as an active place of worship. In the Westminster Abbey are two main attractions, the Royal Tomb and the Poet’s Corner. The tomb contains the tombs of a couple of famous people. The Westminster Abbey also contains three gardens. The Garth, the Little Cloister and the College Garden.
