London Sights Day 3: Covent Garden by Mila

Covent Garden + The Opera

Covent Garden is a neighbourhood located in London. It’s rich in all kinds of shops and food courts, especially in Covent Garden Market. What used to be prostitution squares, are now blooming with entertainment and tourism.

There are a lot of street artists and buskers who may ask their spectators to lend them a hand. Some people may like it, some may not. These streetartists are mostly found when there is good weather. With those conditions you can also go to a café to grab a bite and have a drink. The nearest underground stations are Covent Garden and Leicester Square.

The Royal Opera House is located near Covent Garden Market. It was burnt down and rebuilt twice. It is one of the most famous opera houses in the world.

The shows given there are mostly opera and ballet nowadays, but during the second world war it was used for dancing. The building has changed a lot since WW2.  There were a lot of renovations and expansions  which cost about 213,000 pounds. With this amount of money, they could build a new studio room with 400 seats, several other studios, choir repetition space and offices.
