London Sights Day 2: The British Museum by Indy en Eline

British Museum

The British museum is located at Great Russell Street in the centre of London. It is very close to other huge tourist attractions like Covent Garden for instance.
The museum has one of the largest collections  in the world. Annually the museum is visited by more than six million people. The museum has a variety of ancient artefacts but they also have a collection of present day artefacts. It differs from mummies, to books, to farming shit (of 15 million years old).
The history of the museum begun with the death of Hans Sloan. He was a traveller and in his last will  he left his treasures to the king and the state. After him a lot of people followed by donating their artefacts to the Government. To hold all these treasures the state ordered to build a museum.
However, a lot of the artefacts donated to the museum weren’t exactly bought. There is a suspicion that a lot of the artefacts that Hans Sloan donated, had been stolen. This means that over half of the collection displayed in the museum is actually stolen. This results in a lot of controversy because the museum is very proud of its collection.
